“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
Thoughts Today
Today’s scripture is rich with meaning, offering two key revelations that can transform our perspective and guide our journey with God. It all begins with the powerful words: “Forget the former things.” (Isaiah 43:18)
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are made new—completely transformed into new creations. (2 Corinthians 5:17) God calls us to leave our former lives behind, just as He reminds us to remember Lot’s wife, who looked back and longed for what she left behind and was turned to a pillar of salt. (Luke 17:32) We are not meant to yearn for or miss our lives before Christ. Instead, God invites us to fix our gaze forward, trusting in His promise of renewal and purpose. (Philippians 3:13-14)
The second part of the verse, “I am making a way in the wilderness…” is a beautiful promise. (Isaiah 43:19) It’s an assurance that even in the barren, broken, and seemingly unfruitful areas of our lives, God can bring life and abundance. The wilderness symbolizes those places where we feel lost, hopeless, or stagnant. (Psalm 107:35) Yet, God declares that He will make streams in the wasteland, turning what seemed dead into something thriving. (Ezekiel 37:5-6) To experience this, we must step out of our comfort zones and allow God to show His power in our lives. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God’s Message for Mental Health
This passage also speaks powerfully to those struggling with anxiety and depression. If that’s you, let this verse be a lifeline—a promise to hold onto. God is saying, “Don’t dwell on the past. I’m here to take care of your future.” (Matthew 6:34) He promises to breathe life into the parts of your life that feel dead. (John 11:25-26) Even in the darkest valleys of anxiety or depression, God is with you, guiding you toward prosperity and peace. (Psalm 23:4)
Action Step
Take a moment to pray and ask God what He wants to do in your life this month, this year, or even this decade. Write it down. Then, create a list of specific steps you can take today to work toward that vision. Faith and action go hand in hand—when God says He will do something, you can move confidently, knowing He will bring it to fruition. (James 2:26)
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for making us new creations and calling us to leave our past behind. Help us to focus on where You are leading us, trusting in Your promise to make a way in the wilderness. In moments of anxiety or depression, remind us to rest in You, knowing You are always with us. Take us out of our comfort zones, Lord, and move in our lives in ways that glorify You and reveal Your character. All the praise and glory belong to You, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.y goes to you because you deserve it. In Jesus' name AMEN!!
